Sensitivity and Respect

As media professionals, it is our duty to to be sensitive to all cultures and communities in our writing. We must understand that people from all walks of life and from all cultures will most likely see or read our work in the media. In order to prevent bringing offense to anyone we must have respect for all cultures. It is sometimes difficult to do this, especially when we don't particularly understand the culture we are addressing or writing about. In these instances, it is our responsibility as journalists to use sensitive language and to gain at least a general understanding of the group we are dealing with.
