National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association

The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) is an group that is devoted to the unbiased, fair and accurate coverage of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transexual issues in the media. The NLGJA opposes all form of workplace bias and provides professional development to its members. NLGJA membership consists of journalists and students in print, broadcast and online media. It is important for the NLGJA to get their voices out into the news and be the watchdog for the people they represent. This group makes sure that the media are being fair to people who fall into the gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans-sexual category. There are many stories that could potentially put these minorities in a bad spot-light to the audience that it is reaching. For those who work in the media, it is important for those people to see other groups in their workplace as different and for them to be able to respect different groups and their views.
