JMC 2033

JMC 2033 is the first big step that a student in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication will take. It is an intensive course that prepares students to learn to better their writing skills so that each individual can reach their professional goals, whether it is journalism, advertising, public relations, or broadcast journalism professional. This class helps to develop the skills needed to better communicate in the media.

One of the main goals of this class is to help students improve their writing skills. Each individual has a different level at which they write. In this course each student should start to think of themselves as a writer whether they have a high or low proficiency at which they write. This class will also help each student find which Journalism profession interests them most. It will prepare students for a career in any field of Journalism and help them become professionals in their field.

The class is divided into two separate sections. There is a lecture portion of the class which is worth half of the total grade for the class. There is also a lab portion of the class which is worth the other half of the total grade. The lecture grade consists of quizzes and exams. Twenty five percent of the lecture grade is from quizzes and the other twenty five percent are from exams. Quizzes will be taken nearly every day and count towards attendance. The lab portion of the class focuses on writing and using writing to do assignments that will test the students’ skills that they have learned from the lecture. In lab there is a teaching assistant that is there to help the student through the writing process.

Overall, JMC 2033 is a class designed to develop the writing skills of students so that they may become professionals in their separate fields of journalism.
