Writing for Mass Media is a class that will help students work on their writing skills, information gathering skills, and become a better communicator.

During the semester the students will improve the writing by going the a JMC lab twice a week and do various exercises. Understanding media writing is crucial if the students want to move forward with their major classes. The students will need to know the core values of their profession. They will have to understand how the media work, think and act. The students will have daily quizzes to keep them on their toes in the media world. In their labs, they will get a chance to get familiar with writing skills, and write and broadcast stories. Even though writing is a huge factor in journalism, it is also important to have ethical judgment, critical thinking, and interviewing. The students will be able to find their strengths and interests and know exactly what they are wanting to do in the journalism field.

The students will need to read their assignments before each class and keeping up with the news and media will help them along the way. The quizzes will be the first 10 minutes of class and are attendance quizzes that will cover language skills or media and news quizzes. The labs will give the students a chance to practice your skills and teach them the basics.

This course will not be easy. It will challenge the students and they will have to keep on top of their reading and know important things going on in the media and news world. The students will do fine in the class and lab if they do their work.
