JMC 2033 Overview

JMC 2033 is a course that teaches individuals how to write for the mass media. The course objectives include the understanding and the development of different forms of media, as well as the influence of media in culture. The course will touch on developing an awareness of the influences on media while helping students to learn how to evaluate content in the media. Some of the goals of this course are to improve the student's writing, to better understand media professions, and to expand professional skills. The course is graded as a percentage for three areas, the lab portion, exams, and quizzes. The exams are worth 25 percent, the quizzes 25 percent, and the lab portion is worth 50 percent.

The lab portion of the course involves multiple writing and grammar exercises to help teach students how important detail and accuracy are in the media world. The lab allows practice and perfection to the student's writing and language skills, while also teaching you how to interview and gather information. The assignments given in lab are judged based on writing skills, language skills, and information gathering. To have performed excellent work on the writing assignments, your writing must be very good throughout, it must be well organized and clear, there should be complete information, and the language skills and grammar used should be with little to no error. The lab portion of the course is worth half of the individual's grade, which displays the comprehensive understanding for the individual to move further into the media world.
